An excursion to the former capital of Ayutthaya, including a cruise along the 'River of Kings'. Duration of tour: 9 hours Includes: Transportation by coach, English speaking guide, entrance to Bang Pa-In Summer Palace, Ayutthaya city tour, buffet lunch and cruise on the Pearl of Siam yacht from Wat Chomlom to Bangkok.
Depart by coach to the former Siamese capital of Ayutthaya, 70 km north of Bangkok. Our first visit is to Bang Pa-In Summer Palace, which was revived by the Chakri kings in the 19th century and sports a mixture of Thai, Chinese and European architectural styles. Continue to the ruins of Ayutthaya, abandoned after a Bamar invasion of 1767. In its heyday, Ayutthaya was one of the wealthiest and most magnificent cities of the Orient. Visit the remains of Wat Maha That (the 'great relic' temple) Wat Sri Sanphet with its distinctive triple chedis and the outsize Buddha image of Viharn Phra Mongkol Bophit. Board the Pearl of Siam cruiser at Wat Chonglom pier and return to Bangkok along the Chao Phraya, the 'River of Kings'. Enjoy a buffet lunch on board then relax as the countryside scenery of Pathum Thani and Nonthaburi provinces gives way to the city of Bangkok.
