After assembling at the Viengtai Hotel head for Ratchawong Pier, the Chao Phraya River gateway to Bangkok's Chinatown. In 1782, the founder of the reigning Chakri dynasty moved the Siamese capital to Bangkok, displacing the resident Chinese merchants with the construction of the Grand Palace, who moved south to the present location. Walk along Songwat Road, lined with old commercial premises still in use, to the leather trading district of Yaowaphanit Road. Take a break at a typical 100 year old coffee shop for a drink and snack before continuing to Issaranuparb Road through the market specialising in religious goods. Yaowaraj Road in the heart of Chinatown is one big bazaar, and a street dinner of barbecued seafood is enjoyed before visiting the Saphan Phut Night Market for a spot of browsing. The last stop is the Pak Klong Talad Flower Market, decked out in blooms during the evening.
